There are several other places to attain weight loss support, and this can include: a friend also beginning their weight loss journey, a support group at work or church or at the gym, and finally, even an online support group can provide the encouragement necessary to attain weight loss goals.
Friend: If you have an overweight friend who also desires to slim their figure, combine forces. Make a workout schedule and agree to go together. Also, set weight loss goals, and create a rewards system once a certain number of pounds have been lost. For example, after you have each lost 10 pounds, reward yourselves with a trip to the day spa. After 25 pounds, take a day trip. Compare healthy new recipes, and seek out fun activities that are also physical, including a salsa dance class, tennis class, or a yoga class.
Work: Chances are a few of your coworkers are also overweight. If your company currently doesn't offer a weight loss support group, talk to your boss or HR representative to find out if you could spearhead the effort. Arrange weekly meetings right before work or during lunch where your group can meet and discuss their challenges and successes.
Church: In addition to providing spiritual nourishment, some churches have formed groups aimed at providing physical nourishment as well. Consult your pastor or deacon at your church to determine if your church currently has any kind of weight loss support group available.
Gym: Joining a gym may seem a little daunting if you're out of shape, but the majority of gyms provide free consultation from a fitness trainer. Additional training sessions may come at an additional cost depending on the gym, or it may be included in the monthly rate. If you're new to working out, meeting with a personal trainer at least a few times will be a good way to learn new exercises, and they can also help you set realistic weight loss goals.
Online: The anonymity of the Internet is an attractive option to those struggling with self-confidence in addition to being overweight. There are several online support groups available, one of the most popular being Weight Loss Buddy. "You can't help someone up the hill without getting closer to the top yourself" is their mantra, and those eager to lose weight can seek out a co-conspirator with a simple or advanced search. Find a buddy based on sex, age, amount of pounds to lose, or even by zip code if you want to make a real-life connection.
